Greek love: Ikaria Park
Lately, my TikTok algorithm has been taken over by all things Mamma Mia. Think dramatic lip-syncs, girls dancing on cliffs in flowy dresses, and everyone suddenly craving feta. Maybe I’m just cheesy, but maybe TikTok knows something I hadn’t said out loud yet: I’ve fallen in love with a Greek. A Greek restaurant, to be exact.
Hidden inside the green oasis of the Bilderdijkpark, you’ll find one of Amsterdam’s most effortlessly cool hotspots: Ikaria Park. Inspired by the Greek island where time seems to stand still (and people literally forget to die), this spot makes you forget you’re still in the city. With sun-drenched vibes, natural wines, and the kind of food that makes you want to book a one-way ticket to the Aegean, Ikaria Park is a modern Greek dream - no passport required.
The moment you sit down on their leafy terrace, you’re welcomed like an old friend. The staff, all walking embodiments of Greek hospitality, will happily guide you through the menu, often sharing their personal favourites. And honestly? I’ve never had a dish here that wasn’t full-on fabulous. I usually kick off my feast with their torched dolmas (stuffed grape leaves with herbed rice) and their creamy tarama (cod roe spread) served with warm, fluffy pita.
If I’m feeling indulgent - so basically always - I go for the octopus ‘ksidato’ in tarragon vinegar or the grilled sardines with tomato pico de gallo. Every dish feels like a hug from the inside: rich and hearty, but still fresh, thanks to clever combinations of herbs, citrus, and just the right touch of olive oil.
Pro tip: bring friends and order the entire menu to share. The dishes are made for it — and you won’t want to miss anything.
Their wine list exclusively features Greek bottles, which might sound intimidating, but don’t worry. Many of the grapes are close cousins to the ones you already know and love. Still unsure? Trust me and order the KITRVS Malagouzia - zesty, fesh and with a lingering finish that pairs beautifully with grilled fish or chicken. (Like, say, their lemon kotopoulo or langoustines…)
Finish your evening with a little Metaxa or ouzo if you’re in the mood, but promise me you won’t skip the coffee. Ikaria Park is an extension of their nearby coffee kiosk, and their brew has been a neighbourhood favourite for years.
Whether you're basking in the summer sun with a bottle of wine and a view of dogs passing by, or snuggling up inside the small restaurant during winter with candlelight and string lights twinkling outside, Ikaria Park is your go-to Greek getaway in Amsterdam West.
